The repair work on the road from Rudraprayag to Gaurikund is going on a brisk pace to prepare it for traffic movement of Kedarnath Yatra on May 4.
The Power Works Department(PWD) has been given added responsibility to repair the 76 KM stretch after the Border Road Organisation, initially given the responsible for its upkeep, expressed inability to complete the project citing paucity of funds.
The PWD is racing against time and fighting inclement weather, as lots of work is still pending. Uttarakhand chief secretary Subhash Kumar, who was on a visit to Kedarnath recently said,"it would be a great achievement if the government could offer the bituminished roads to the piligrims." He said the PWD has been given more funds for it and asked to increase the work force."I will visit Kedarnath and Badrinath again on April 25 to see the progress," he added.
